Waxing vs. Sugaring Which one is Better?

I am particularly one who truly enjoys all things self-care. Whether that be a spa day – a day spent doing personal pampering- like hair, nails, etc… regardless of what it is, I am one that’s totally for caring for myself as a woman! So, when I heard about this new thing called “sugaring” as an alternative to traditional waxing – I just had to try it out!

Whether you prefer waxing or sugaring it’s really a personal preference. I personally wanted to take a chance and give sugaring a shot, especially after hearing how much healthier it is in comparison to waxing. Well, I will tell you, after my experience sugaring, I am forever committed to the sugaring experience! Why? You may ask, well first off being the daredevil that I am, I found that the process was a lot less painful (ok, this isn’t to say that it’s a walk in the park, but the pain doesn’t seem to last as long as a traditional wax). I went for the Brazilian sugar wax,  so during this particular experience, I found the results left me a lot smoother, a lot softer as a result than the traditional way of waxing.

Prior to going in for my sugaring, I did exfoliate the skin 2 nights before to avoid irritation. I was able to schedule my appointment online with the Organics Sugaring Center located in Bethesda, Maryland. Making things very simple.

The process hurt! I mean, if I am honest the pain is almost the same as waxing – however, if you manage to make it through the first session, the others to follow will be a cake walk. It really just depends on your pain tolerance.

I have to thank Nita, at the Organics Sugaring Center, in Bethesda, Maryland who really did a wonderful job in walking me through the sugaring process, and all her support as she guided me through. This place is amazing! Ensuring to get you in and out in no time flat!

What is Sugaring?

“Sugaring is a form of hair removal that resembles waxing but is gentler on the skin and is all-natural (only sugar, lemon juice, water, and glycerin),” explains Tummala. “It dates back to the civilizations of ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece. Sugaring tends to hurt less than waxing because it pulls less on the skin while still effectively removing the hair. This also means that you will have a lot less irritation and redness. In addition, the weight of the denim cloth used in our salon for the sugaring gel helps reduce some of the pain.” – https://www.byrdie.com/sugaring-vs-waxing

Ingredients for Waxing vs. Sugaring

There is a difference between the substances that are used for the two processes.

  • Sugaring uses natural food-grade ingredients like sugar, lemon juice, water, and sometimes essential oils, salt and/or honey.
  • Waxes are made primarily of resins, which may be natural ingredients like beeswax, honey, and essential oils. But you’ll also find artificial fragrances, dyes, chemicals, and preservatives in most of the waxing formulas on the market today.  – https://www.liveabout.com/sugaring-versus-waxing-1717098

My 2-Week Update

So far, the results still stand! I have not experienced any ingrown hairs or regrowth as of yet. I still find that I am VERY pleased with my results!

As I continue, I am creating and exploring all things women. I think it is important that every woman has some degree of a self-care routine. That doesn’t necessarily mean you must go broke doing so either. There are a few things that you can do that costs little to nothing

My Current Self-Care Regimen Includes:

Weekly Charcoal Mask – I love this and probably one of my favs on this list! I love a charcoal mask – a great way to unwind after a long day.

Bath and Body Scrub –  Also a great way to end a long day, simply soak in a warm bath (adding a bubble bath of your choice) following your soak, doing a body scrub. This I tell you feels AMAZING!

Reading a Book – I love to read! I enjoy reading mostly early in the mornings before I begin my day!

What ways do you decide to wine down?? What do you consider to be essential to your own self-care routine? Please share with us below!

Stand Out This Summer with Neon Nails

Summer is here. ‘Tis the season of splash and spunk and spark. My love for neon and bright colors reflects in all my summer choices- be it clothes, accessories or make-up.

Nail color is a big part of your personality. Chilling by the pool flaunting your favourite summer nail color is what cool evenings are made of. Summer shades demand a dash of sprightly cheer in nail colours. Bright fun bold-hued nail paint shades have flooded the market in a big way this summer. One is bound to feel mesmerized and confused by the plethora of choices out there.

I’ll share with you some of my favourite summer nail color picks-

Baby Lavender

A cute color to go with your summer outfit is the lighter shade of lavender. Just like the fresh morning glory flowers, this shade brightens up your nails in a very subtle way, without being over the top. I love the one from Sally’s that has just the right tint of purple to it. And it’s quite in my budget too!

Neon blue

The ink-blot neon blue nail color is a summer must-have. Cheerful and stylish, my nails ooze oomph when I’m wearing this sparkly nail paint. Most of the times, summer demands flowy light-weight flowery dresses in powder blues, greens and yellows, and this is one of the super cool choices to complement my summer outfits.

Neon pink

Who doesn’t love pink? Bright crimson, baby pink, plum- any shade of pink is my go-to nail colour for a party, and especially a neon pink one when it is summer time. The cute pink nail colour impresses not just me but my classy gang of friends too. Pink never goes out of style. Try this one out on your next summer date!

Muahz! Kiss Your Boring Lip Looks Goodbye!

Shift simple pretty lips to a jaw-dropping good lip color. Yes, this is a definitely a trend thing every woman should try!

I’m obsessed with lipsticks! In fact, I’m a keeper of all the shades and enjoy painting my lips with a bold clean classic hue. It’s like a fun way to play with different yet similar colors. There are brown and nude pink undertones – my top favorites. Ruby Woo and Rihanna’s “Stunna” reds and  the “True Brown K” of Kylie Jenner are my now go-to lippy statement colors.

I enjoy  Anastasia Beverly Hills’ lippies that will surely give every woman satisfaction in tone and hue. You may also nail your own nude hue by going for a shade darker than your own skin tone. Try wearing a nude with pink if you’re fair-skinned. Opt for nude with orange undertones if you have a medium skin tone. Go for rosy browns, chocolate browns with a bit shimmer or caramel browns to counteract redness if you’re deeper skinned so they will look more nude just like Rimmel London Kate Nudes Lipstick – Brown ($8.72).

Do you have a lip color to get those alluringly fresh lippies now? You should! Share some recommendations below!

Melanin Glow up, Spring & Summer Makeup

My signature makeup is easy and glowy: unlike during fall and winter, I enjoy experimenting with pastels and bright berry shades with a light coverage and soft highlighter.

…I always use a gel moisturizer like to hydrate my skin throughout the day and shield it from the rest of the makeup and pollution.

The first step after moisturizing is foundation. I prefer a foundation that has a bouncy texture that doesn’t immediately sticks to the face. The Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation covers just enough without a cakey effect – it also glides on to the skin beautifully, so it’s a dream to work with (without any $100 brush needed).

Instead of a very visible highlight and contour, I prefer a lighter “halo effect” and give my skin a natural glow instead. For this, a larger highlighting brush and a soft powder highlighter works perfectly, and to get my signature glow, I dust the highlighter on the high points of my face, the cheekbones and bridge of the nose.

For everyday wear, I prefer a deep black mascara while staying away from eyeliner (to save the classic cat eyes for special occasions). This Maybelline mascara is a classic, and is great for keeping my lashes curled and super thick all day without clumping up.

Following the less is more philosophy, I add a rose cheek and lip tint that brightens up everything even more. This tint by Benefit is flattering and easy to layer, so I can get any result between a light rose pink and a bright berry shade.

Get That Spring Skin, Honey!

The secret is out, just like the sun this Spring!

But your most valuable asset won’t be your fresh new clothes or face that has been BEAT to the gawds…

This spring…as if I’ve not said it enough already, SKIN is IN. With more celebrities and models going for the barely-there, ‘no-makeup’ makeup looks, the focus is now on beautiful skin that’s glowy and soft.

This, of course, ultimately starts and ends with a proper skin care regime. Whether you have one already or are new to it, I’d love to introduce you to Julep, an innovative Korean skin care and beauty line that has fast become a favourite among top celebs and beauty bloggers worldwide.

Here’s what’s so cool about Julep –they have an awesome cleansing oil that helps to clear all your pores, remove makeup residue or anything oil-based. What’s even better is that this helps to keep your skin moisturized, nourished and soft to the touch.

In addition to this, there are a number of affordable options when it comes to foaming cleansers, moisturizers and even their all-natural sponges and masks. Totally worth a try if you’re looking to give your skin some well-deserved TLC.

Are you a Julep fan or have you tried any of their products before? I want to hear about your experience. Drop a comment down below and let’s hear what you think.

What Does Your Spring Smell Like?

Spring…a time of fresh flowers and meadow rain.

Yummy fruity scents and freshly-cut daisies plopped in a glass on your desk.

Yeah, that’s what spring smells like.

For the perfume aficionados among us (myself included), it can be a bit hard to constantly shell out your coins to nab the latest of your favourite designer fragrances, especially when each one is just so much more divine than the last. So, you can imagine my delight when I discovered Scentbird, a monthly subscription service like BirchBox or Ipsy.

This gives you a month’s supply (that’s 8ml or 0.27 ounces) of your favourite fragrance (and they have over 450 options, including your favorite designer scents) for just $14.95. Did I mention the free shipping bit? Yes, ma’am…getting it to your doorstep won’t cost you a dime!

So, whether your taste is a sprinkle or Burberry or a splash of Elie Saab, or perhaps if you feel more strongly about Calvin Klein, Issey Miyake or Cartier, take your favorite scents for a test ride, before committing yourself to the full-sized bottle.

Tried Scentbird before? I’d love to hear about your experience. Plus, what are your scent selections for Spring?

Three Makeup Tips to Get The ‘Fresh Face’ Look This Spring

Along with updating your wardrobe for Spring ’18, a few minor updates to your makeup stash can also go a far way in giving you that fresh face – no filter needed—look. Skip the eyeliner and go for some mascara that gives you va-va-voom lashes (or invest in a set of natural looking falsies for those special occasions).

You can also skip over your full-coverage foundations for some medium or light coverage options that will give you the coverage you need, but with that barely-there look that’s trending this season. While you’re at it—remember that the thing about this Spring is that skin is in! So don’t forget to get yourself a great cleanser, and moisturiser to help you stay suave with the changing weather.

Finally, kiss those bold dark matte lips you favoured last season and pop some spring into your pucker with a shiny, ultra-glamorous lip gloss. Speaking of which, be sure to check out some of my faves for this spring – the Live Glam Lippies Glosses. They come in soooo many gorgeous colours, and you can even get a great deal with three awesome shades for under $20.

Got any tips of your own? Drop them below and let’s all put our best face forward for Spring!

Skin is in!

As a self-proclaimed makeup addict, you might be surprised to hear what one of my favorite beauty trends of 2018 is, so far.

The ‘no-makeup’ makeup look!

With more celebrity makeup artists opting for the barely-there, natural beauty looks for their clients, even more people are jumping on the trend. Now, more cosmetic lines are promoting their ‘lighter’ formulas with less ‘cake-face’ and more pro-glow looks in everything – from magazine editorial shoots to cosmetics ads.

This transformation is a beauty to behold, as makeup is less considered as disguise (cue all those memes about guys taking a girl to the beach on the first date *rolls eyes and flips hair*) and more about enhancing natural beauty.

This is great, certainly. But is this betrayal for some of us who rely on our trusted cosmetics to cover up that high school nightmare acne or hyper-pigmentation? Is this betrayal from the cosmetic brands in which we such trustily invested our coins? Well, that’s one way to look at it.

What I’d recommend is that you look at it from the standpoint that it forces you to start taking better care of your natural skin. You may even want to moving your monthly cosmetics investment to some Acne.org or visit your local dermatologist for some help.

At the end of the day, you have to ensure that you take the best care of your skin – not just because that’s what’s in right now, but because that’s your foundation element right there. Furthermore, you don’t want to always have to apply a full face of makeup every time you have to go through the door, talking about how superman goes nowhere without his cape.

Show your skin some love! Over time, I’ll introduce you to some of my favorite skin-care picks – but shoot me a line and tell me what works for you! I’m always open to trying and learning about new products.
